Federal Detention Center Honolulu Overview
Federal Detention Center Honolulu, or FDC Honolulu, is a Federal Bureau of Prisons administrative-security federal detention center. ICE also lists FDC Honolulu as a detention facility. It is not a Kalawao County jail and is not operated by Hawaii DCR. It matters for Kalawao County searches only when the person is in federal criminal custody, U.S. Marshals custody, BOP custody, or immigration detention.
The facility address is 351 Elliott Street, Honolulu, HI 96819. The BOP main facility phone is (808) 838-4200. The ICE facility page lists a detainee information line at (808) 529-1970. Because FDC Honolulu serves a different legal system, MCCC and Hawaii SAVIN should not be used as substitutes for BOP or ICE custody locators.
Federal custody is separate: Do not call MCCC for BOP or ICE records unless a source shows the person is physically housed there. Use BOP, ICE, USMS, or FDC Honolulu channels for federal and immigration custody.

When Kalawao Searches Go Federal
A Kalawao-area arrest can leave the state system if the case is federal, immigration-related, or handled by a federal agency. The U.S. Marshals Service is responsible for federal prisoners from court-ordered custody until acquittal or conviction and delivery to BOP. A sentenced or detained federal inmate may appear in the BOP locator. An immigration detainee may appear in ICE's online detainee locator.
Federal pretrial custody is a common point of confusion. A person may be physically held in a detention center while still moving through federal court and not yet serving a BOP sentence. The BOP locator may not explain every pretrial movement, and the local federal court or USMS district may be more relevant for immediate custody placement. ICE custody adds another layer because immigration detention uses its own locator and case-information process.
Federal searches do not use Kalawao County inmate records, a Kalawao roster, or Hawaii SAVIN unless the person is also in DCR custody. If a family member hears that a person was taken to federal court, had an immigration hold, or was transported to Honolulu, the BOP, ICE, and USMS routes should be checked separately.

Use the ICE Detainee Locator
The ICE Online Detainee Locator System is for current ICE custody and CBP custody over 48 hours. It does not search records of people under 18. ICE searches differ from BOP searches because immigration custody is civil detention and uses identity fields such as A-number and country of birth.

Visiting FDC Honolulu
FDC Honolulu visiting rules are federal rules, not Hawaii DCR or MCCC rules. BOP warns that visiting hours can change and that facility leadership can restrict or cancel visits. ICE visitation rules may differ from BOP social visiting, and legal visits use separate procedures. Always confirm with the relevant official facility page before travel.

FDC Honolulu Mail and Funds
Federal mail and funds should follow BOP or ICE facility instructions. Do not send state DCR mail to FDC Honolulu, and do not use MCCC's ConnectNetwork or DCR deposit rules for federal custody. BOP mail commonly uses the inmate's federal register number and federal facility instructions. BOP funds use federal deposit systems rather than local jail cashier procedures.

No Public Federal Mugshots
Federal mugshots are not published through a Kalawao County roster. BOP and ICE locators are custody-location and status tools, not county booking-photo galleries. A federal or ICE detainee may be found through the locator while no public booking photo appears online. Requests for federal records follow federal agency procedures, not Hawaii UIPA or Kalawao sheriff channels.
USMS BOP and ICE Differences
Federal custody can involve more than one agency. The correct search depends on the stage and legal basis for detention. A federal pretrial prisoner may be in U.S. Marshals custody. A BOP inmate may be detained or sentenced in federal custody. An ICE detainee is searched through ODLS and ICE facility channels.
A Kalawao-area reader should also keep the court system in view. Federal detention may follow a federal complaint, indictment, warrant, supervised-release violation, immigration action, or transfer. The state eCourt Kokua system may not show the federal case. BOP and ICE locators may show custody status without explaining every court event. When the case is federal, use federal court, USMS, BOP, and ICE sources instead of Hawaii DCR records.
Release questions are also different. State bail under Hawaii law does not control a federal detention order, an ICE custody decision, or a U.S. Marshals hold. A person can be released from one matter and still remain detained under another authority. Confirm the custody type, agency, and facility before arranging travel, legal visits, funds, or records requests.
Federal detention records also have different photo and privacy practices. Do not expect a public mugshot or a county-style booking log. A locator result may be enough to identify custody location, but deeper records may require federal court records, agency contact, FOIA procedures, or counsel.
